Welcome to Pelourinho’s most original hostel voted best in Brazil in it's first year! Now with Free AIR CONDITIONING in its large dorms.Its not just us that think our little place is special, in our first year we were voted best Hostel in Brazil by our guests from Hostelworld!!! Now we have reached the dizzy heights of being allowed in to the LONELY PLANET and selected as 'OUR PICK'. We will just have to make sure we don't let it go to our heads as many others seem to when they get into the backpacker's bible.
The native English speaking owner provided Pelourinho with its 'newest hostel' just a few years ago ,it is still the most refreshing (well yeh it has a pool) & unique spot (morrocan “chill out” room) to stay in the historical center.

The Galeria 13 Team includes a great mix of the local staff (the bahian smile) that's the lady who is still going to be happy cooking you up some eggs until midday when the breakfast finaly finishes & of course the imported goods those travelers who decide to add something extra to the galeria's history by spending just a little longer in Salvador(they will make your stay comfotable and help you navigate in Pelourinho] & on your continued journey. You will also find the two very special members,our dogs
Spartan (boxer) & Zulu (Fila) who will make the stay much more memorable & safer.
Well you have all read it before so we wont go on about it too much ,but yes the owner traveled a little so he thinks he knows what you guys are looking for.That was the intial ingredient to the start of the hostel's story now he has brought in new staff who come & go but who all help to maintain the hostel's fresh & lively approach.
After a year we then started appearing on some very important web pages where we were proud to be voted number ONE hostelIN BRAZIL 2008 by our guests from hostelworld.com & running in pole position on

So now its the next chapter.The team has grown I have found great people to share the experience,they have given a boost of bright new energy to the hostel & also brought refreshing idea´s,yeh they have grabbed some of the glory from me but heh I have to be grown up & share my baby.I use to only read my name on our comments page(it felt great)but it’s a lot busier & its not possible to cover all the shifts.Some of these super people have moved on,but the great local team stays the same & other members join & revitalise the vibe of the hostel. I know our staff (that includes Spartan & zulu) are what make us stand out in the “Pelo”,well its what make´s all great hostel´s special. So you guys are going to be comfortable & safe in your temporary home whilst visiting this amazing city.
From the street
The old house deceives the on-looker as it seems to have only two floors, but in fact it offers three floors, the upper two divided into five rooms with beautiful wooden floors & strong locally made bunks,all rooms have ensuite showers.
Reception & Moroccan chill out room
Downstairs you will find the large area divided between the reception,restaurant with cocktail/juice bar & Moroccan chill out room with the interesting options to relax & mix with your fellow guests.
Garden terrace & Swimming pool
Running along side the house you will discover the relaxing garden terrace where we are now adding the(i believe) onlySWIMMING POOL of any Hostel in salvador & restaurant area where breakfast is served & where meals can be enjoyed through out the day or where a peaceful beer can be savoured away from the hustle & bustle of the terraces of Pelourinho .
Even though new in "pelo" it already has lots of guests from other hostels & locals who appreciate the unique experience the garden provides in the old town.
Also outside you will find more relaxing chill out spots whether in a hammock
Or on the middle eastern style lounging area.
